SMOKEY HOUSE CENTER CONSERVES ADDITIONAL LAND

-

Danby, VT – June 1, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Smokey House Center recently committed nearly 250 acres to its impressive portfolio of protected lands. The conservation, agriculture, and education nonprofit in Danby, VT stewards approximately 5,000 acres of working forest and farmland while engaging area youth in hands-on education and supporting the regional food and farm economy.

In 2003, Smokey House Center placed conservation easements on the major portion of its forest and agricultural lands, legally limiting use of the land in order to protect its conservation values in perpetuity. These easements are held by the New England Forestry Foundation.

The newly conserved acreage, comprised primarily of formerly “banked lots” – parcels that could have been sold as developable lots – has now been protected from future development. This addition advances the organization’s goal of retaining the rural forest and agricultural landscape of the Danby Four Corners Valley.
