“Shopping small is HUGE!” said Adna Karabegovic, Church Street Marketplace marketing manager. “Small Business Saturday celebrates the backbone of our community, the jobs and security that small businesses create and the culture they preserve here in Vermont. The money spent at local businesses stays here and aids our community.”

Vermonters who choose to support Vermont’s small-towns by shopping local help increase employment and invigorate the economy. Last year alone, more than 500 new jobs were created in Vermont’s downtowns.

“Shopping local is a win-win for consumers and local businesses,” Lisa Sullivan of Wilmington Works, said. “Wilmington Works is excited to announce its first local shopping initiative; shoppers can save money this holiday season and win prizes, including a cash prize of $500.”

During this year’s 5050 Challenge, Vermont Downtowns are offering more events and special offers than ever. Many towns, including Wilmington, Bristol, Montpelier and Waterbury, will host parades, chocolate walks and light the Christmas tree or community Menorah.
